Certified Security Dog Handlers Course

K9 Centre offers a nationally accredited security dog handlers course for approved security licensing.

The outcomes of this course are to provide participants with training for the elective units for handling patrol dogs in security work.

CPPSEC3011A (Manage Dogs for Security Functions) and CPPSEC3010A (Handle Dogs for Security Patrol) are nationally recognised units of competency from the Certificate III in Security Operations.

This training applies to personnel who have responsibility for training, caring, handling and maintaining patrol dogs

within a security function operated within an organisation. There is an industry expectation that individuals working with patrol dogs will have successfully completed these two units.

Course Structure

The course addresses the role and responsibilities of the dog handler to perform security operations according to organisational requirements and in compliance with relevant legislation.

  • Selecting of suitable security canines
  • Understanding legal requirements of security dog handling & management
  • Understanding the organisational requirements of a security dog management
  • Maintaining the health and welfare of a patrol dogs
  • Developing and implementing training programs for patrol dogs
  • Conducting protection and apprehension work with a patrol dog

 

Entry Requirements

All course participants must be over the age of 18 years and have completed Certificate II in Security.

Course participants must provide their own suitable dog.
A pre-course dog assessment is available to ensure entry level requirements.

Cost

The Security Dog Handler course runs over 10 business days.

The cost of the course is $1,100 Inc gst.
We believe that this course should be delivered with the intention of developing competent handlers not just to hand out a certificate.
