A detection dog is a dog that is trained to use its sense of smell to detect a a specific odour that it is trained to find. It is then taught to indicate to the handler that it has detected that specific odour and therefor rewarded for doing so, by either giving the dog a food reward or its favourite toy .
Everyone has there preference’s on the types of dogs used as well.
We have trained the following breeds as Drug Detection dogs; Labradors, Beagles, Border Collies, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds and even the Rottweiler. All have made excellent drug detection dogs. These dogs are chosen on there ability not there breed and are trained in all areas and around all distractions. Our dogs are not cross trained and are approachable and love a pat.
